Happy first Monday of 2019! I’m finally back in the swing of things and officially kicking off my 5th year of blogging. Can you believe it? Yep, I launched this site in 2014 and never looked back. JANUARY is my blog anniversary and my birthday month! Stay tuned for lots of GIVEAWAYS coming your way this month to celebrate!
Before I dive into today’s content, I have spent the past two weeks waking up every single morning asking Pete “What day is it?”. I don’t know if it’s because both holidays fell on a Tuesday or what but I have just been so off my schedule. Anyone else? I crave routine and normalcy so have been eagerly awaiting this week. YIPPEE!
Did you watch the Golden Globe Awards last night? As you know, I cover this awards show and the Academy Awards (Oscars) from a FASHION review perspective each year. I watch it on TV as well as on my computer making copious notes on each person that walks the red carpet. Additionally, my followers on social media weigh in because I want to gather input. Listen, this is super subjective so I know I will miss a few beats here and there. This fashion review always gets a lot of comments – so please feel free to let me know what you think. I love hearing from you!
I want to mention that I have complete respect for all these actors and their work. They are brilliant and the shows they work on are amazing. Just to be a working actor is such a huge accomplishment. To be nominated and attend an awards show and have to walk the red carpet must be very intimidating. To win an award – you have arrived! So these comments have nothing to do with their work. It’s just commentary on their fashion choices, or lack thereof. And honestly, most of them have stylist, make-up artists and hair stylist getting them ready. Can you imagine having to be super skinny on January 6 right after the holidays? I guess they don’t consume as much Peppermint Bark as I do. 🙂
At the bottom of this post, I have linked you to some stunning dresses, shoes and accessories. It’s how we regular folk dress up. We can all be red carpet ready for any event.
Which dress was your favorite? xoxo- Tanya
P.S. In case you didn’t know… I randomly send Surprise Boxes full of brand new product to my followers who leave comments on the blog. Hint, Hint!
BEST DRESSED
Lady Gaga in Valentino Couture dress and diamonds from Tiffany & Co. The color, the train, the way she carried herself – WOW, just WOW! I’m not crazy about the dyed hair to match the dress but hey, that’s me. Also, she wore this dress in honor of Judy Garland who wore something similar to the 1954 Golden Globes. CLASS ACT!
I absolutely love all of these dresses too. These women know their bodies and chose well. Nicole Kidman in Michael Kors Collection, Kaley Cuoco in Monique Lhuillier, Lupita Nyong in Calvin Klein and Genna Chan in Valentino Haute Couture.
Love all of these beautiful dresses as well. Dakota Fanning in Armani Prive’, Lili Reinhart in Khyeli, Penelope Cruz in Ralph & Russo and Sandra Oh in Atelier Versace. She changed several times while hosting the awards show and every dress was great!

MEH or I can’t decide where to put them…
I love all of these actors but I’m just not sure how I feel about their dress choice. I almost put Charlize Theron on the Best Dressed list but something is holding me back. Maybe because it’s a hard dress to wear? Also, when you chose a nude color, you’re just playing it safe or you’re indecisive. MEH!

What the hell were they thinking…
Hands down, this was the biggest list for me. What was going on? It’s like their stylist said “More is more and weird is in”. Just NO. The red carpet is a time to shine, not disappoint. I mean did Claire Foy even go to a fitting? Come on people. Step up your game. You’re on the red carpet!
Side note: I know there are a lot of people who are not listed. This blog post gets overwhelming after a while and unfortunately at some point I have to go to bed. Sorry if I missed one of your favorites.

I thought Julia Roberts looked cool! I like the pant with the half skirt….! also thought Julianne Moore looked gorgeous! Her make-up is always perfect for her hair! And the big bow on the back of her dress was darling, but how in the world did she sit down in the dress? Ha!
I was torn on hers. Part of me felt that it wasn’t age appropriate. Her hair and make-up are always flawless. A+

I thought Gaga looked amazing…very old Hollywood glam!
Am I the only one who’s not a fan of crushed velvet? Why is it a thing still? Maybe it’s just flash backs to all the crushed velvet I had in the 90s …
I thought Julia Roberts looked terrible she needs to go back to being a brunette and wearing something more classy. This outfit color wise and style wise washed her out and was too much fabric around her hips.
I didn’t like Gaga outfit either too much fabric it overwhelmed her. Would have looked better in a strapless column with slim train in that fabric and color. Also ditch the blue hair. Jewelry was the best part. She should wear body makeup to cover tattoos when wearing something this elegant. Distracting
My favorite hands down Nicole Kidman, she knows what works on her a slim cut in a striking color to contrast her skin.
Fab writeup and photos! The “What Were They Thinking” candidates are so fun.
I mean, there were plenty to chose from this year…

I agreed with your list. I loved Genna Chan’s deep teal gown. I also loved Emily Blunt’s look, more of an ankle length gown with beautiful lace.
I loved Julia Roberts look too! She always looks great! I think Heidi Klum is so beautiful! Why does she always have the most awful outfits?
There were many beautiful designer dresses but Nicole Kidman in her classy and elegance is always a win!
I mostly agree with your picks, Tanya, but I thought Charlize looked amazing (as always). I would have liked Julia Roberts’ outfit if it was all the nude color. I thought it looked great with her hair and makeup — just thought the black pants made the whole thing look day. I loved Sandra O best in red — beautiful. I also liked Chrissy Metz in red. It’s hard for a big girl to step away from black, so I approve!
Lady Gaga was my favorite! How much fun would it be to wear that dress — as long as you had minions to clear the way, of course!
Kaley really was pushing the pockets. Her people must have decided that she needed to keep her hands in them at all times — it was almost comical to me during the presenting job she had.
Janelle Monae’s makeup was so gorgeous that I didn’t even notice her crazy outfit. Thanks for the recap — heart you and your blog!
Good points all the way around Paige!

I agree on everything you said except I did like Charlize Theron’s dress. I thought she wore it well! I would also like to add Catherine Zeta-Jones to the list of best dressed. I thought her emerald green dress was stunning and the emeralds on her ears – wow! Thanks for doing this – fun to see what everyone thinks!
I loved Kristen Bell in her dress. It was a beautiful pink color that moved really well.
LOVED this post! Oh, you should host a “red carpet” watching party, so that we can do this in person with fabulous cocktails! 🙂
That would be fun! Wonder if anyone would show up! 🙂
xoxo- Tanya
Loved Gaga! Why did Heidi wear that dress? She should know more than anyone how to dress. Just strange.
Your post was SO timely & fun! Was looking for great inspiration with lots of events coming for 2019. You have the best style. Would love if you hosted a live fashion try on session!
Thank you!!
Well, that’s a great idea! Where would you like to see that happen?
At a retail store? Mini fashion show? Best looks for body types?
Let me know.

“What the hell were they thinking…” HAHAHAHA love it, and a very accurate question for some of those outfits. Loved GAGA all the way. Plus bonus points because she rocked this look in 5 INCH HEELS.
Happy Blog Birthday! Blogiversary? Congrats!
Great job! I agree on all your comments but did like Kristin Bell and Charlize Theron. I thought Lady Gaga looked beautiful, especially given some of her previous outfits…think meat! Thanks for staying up and sharing all your thoughts!
I agree with most of your comments and I did like Nicole Kidman’s dress, but I did not like the black bow in the back of her hair. It looked childish. Worst dress was Lucy Liu’s.
Fun post! I like Keri Russell as an actress and my husband and I binge-watched The Americans. But I think her frame can wear a lot of things well and her dress last night was not one of them! In fact, I thought with the slightest wrong move she might not have been wearing it – and she moved as if she too was keenly aware of that fact!
I agree about Lady Gaga. Love the dress, not so much the hair. Too matchy matchy, if for no other reason.
My favorite was Kaley Cuoco.
Poor Lucy Lu, someone steered her wrong.
Thanks for the roundup
I agree with you on your choices. Lady Gaga was well – Lady Gaga. She always seems to pull it off. So stunning. My favorite was Nichole Kidman. So elegant, so sexy, without showing everything off. Of course, if you were there, the red dress you wore to the Cattlebaron’s (or charity) ball would have definitely won.
I loved Gaga’s dress, and I agree that she has come a loooooong way. But I’m not sure I’m loving the hair…
Julia Roberts looked AMAZING!
I LOVED the whole look Gaga had going on. Lucy Lu – what were you thinking when you decided on that dress?! Seriously, were you drunk when you made that choice. I have truly loved her in the TV show Elementary. Her fashion in the show was great as well, very edgy at times. However, the Golden Globes red carpet was not her finest moment.
