Isn’t it funny how your birthday is the most important thing to you when you are young? The anticipation of it, the theme party, friends to celebrate with you, gifts, birthday cake, the whole nine yards. And when you have children you repeat those actions when planning your kid’s birthday shindig with stellar invitations, color coordinated party favors that usually are more elaborate than the gifts your kid will receive and a birthday cake that had to be ordered four weeks in advance. Heaven forbid that you don’t have the very best of everything for this birthday celebration. Heck, I even celebrate my dogs birthday with a party. But how do you feel about celebrating your birthday once you are a middle-aged adult?

Well, my thoughts are this. There’s only one YOU so celebrate big and celebrate often. I like to think that the month of January was created specifically for ME. I blow out birthday candles with my family, friends and count my blessings for my good health and a great life. Never take these things for granted. It’s not about the gifts, it’s about being present and enjoying the moment; you are alive – celebrate that. And honestly, there is no need to tell people how old you are because you are only as old as you feel. I feel 25 – we’ll just go with that!

What is your favorite way to celebrate your birthday?  xoxo- Tanya
