There is nothing better than something being custom created just for you. That’s especially true when you are having a dress made for a special occasion. A one-of-a-kind piece created just for you. That’s the elegance of The Patti Flowers Design Studio.
I’ve introduced you to Patti before in this blog post. So when she asked if she could create my dress for the Crystal Charity Ball Ten Best Dressed luncheon again this year, I quickly said “Heck ya'”! I love what she designed last year so I knew I was in good hands. The added bonus is that we are both members of The Crystal Charity Ball where we volunteer our time raising funds for children’s charities in Dallas County.
The process typically takes 3-4 meetings in her gorgeous design studio on Fairmount Street. You know her entrance immediately because Patti’s signature color is black and her studio has a beautiful black door. The hardwood floors and gorgeous studio are so inviting that I could live there. Her dog Bunny will always greet you when you ring the doorbell.
The first meeting is for ideas, sketches and fabric choices. Once Patti has an idea of what the client wants, she gets to work and comes up with 3-4 choices of design. She also takes your measurements at the first meeting. Be sure to have your shoes and underpinnings that you plan to wear with you at every meeting. It makes a huge difference in the fit of your garment. The next time you meet, she and her team have made a muslin piece that they will fit on you (wear the same undergarments). This is replica of your design so that they can fine tune the fitting. This muslin piece is so well done that you might mistake it for the final dress. Patti and Bladi (design assistant and workroom manager) create their pieces on a mannequin, designing each individual piece in 3D.This is key to the final piece fitting you like a glove. Once they have fitted the muslin pieces they start to create. By the time you arrive for your third fitting, your custom piece is almost complete. They check measurements, hem length, zippers, sleeves and make sure every detail is absolutely perfect.
For this creation I wanted a longer dress and jacket. Patti and Bladi listened carefully to what my vision was. I fully intend to wear the jacket with skinny jeans and a simple blouse as well as wearing the beautiful black sleeveless dress by itself. I feel very Audrey Hepburn in it. Can’t you see me with my big black Chanel sunglasses in this dress?
Think of all the design possibilities with Patti Flowers Design Studio. Bride, bridesmaids, mother of the bride/groom, chairman of a gala/ball, evening gown, debutant gown, luncheon dress and any occasion that calls for something special that no one else will have. The process makes you feel so special start to finish. This is couture at its finest with every details perfectly tailored. People often ask me about the pricing of a custom Patti Flowers Design piece. It all depends on the fabric you choose. Let’s just say that I have a beautiful dress and jacket that look like Chanel without the Chanel price!
Give Patti a ring. You won’t regret it!. xoxo – Tanya

Patti is simply amazing! I am a Vintage clothing collector, and Patti has reworked so many of my favorite pieces, making them fit perfectly, and giving them an update when necessary. LOVE her thoughtful creativity!
Wow what a treasure you have in Dallas! Tanya if I were you I’d get an investment ensemble in fall and spring from her, I bet she does an amazing blazer, or a doubleface wool trimmed fur ensemble from her. Go to Paris with this outfit and black skirt, black and a cream cashmere turtleneck and black skinny jeans, you’d be set!
Great post Tanya!! Love Patti and Bladi. The three of you make a wonderful team. You, the dress and the coat all looked amazing:)
I had to laugh about your comment on the muslin piece because I was thinking the same thing when I saw the photo. Gorgeous work!
Love Patti! You need to have her do your mother of the bride dress!
