The Elisa Project: Jan Osborn and Robin Bagwell

The Elisa Project: Jan Osborn and Robin Bagwell

Kimberly Martinez, Executive Director, recently announced that The Elisa Project will bestow the 2014 Star of Hope award to Robin Bagwell and Jan Osborn. “Robin and Jan are the two most deserving individuals who have continued to serve and promote our mission.  They are both former luncheon co-chairs and The Elisa Project is thrilled to honor them.”

These two former board members are relentless and compassionate volunteers, and along with their respective husbands and children, they have done so much for North Texas. Robin is married to Norm, and they have two children, Lauren and Nolan. Jan is married to Scott and, they have two boys, Alexander and Nicholas.  Together, they are Co-Chairing the Women’s Foundation Luncheon in the fall.  They are also best friends.

Robin is a Meals on Wheels volunteer and has served on the VNA Board. She is Chairman for the Caron Texas Board of Directors, Past President and active member of the CARE Board, New Friends New Life Board and the Nexus Auxiliary Board. Robin has also chaired the CARE Breakfast, New Friends New Life Luncheon, Caron Cares and The Elisa Project Luncheon.

Jan has leadership roles in various nonprofit organizations and has served on the board of directors of several local charities. She has chaired Partnership Dinners, Breakfasts, and Luncheons, recruiting such speakers as Barbara Bush, Oliver North, John Larroquette, and Author Paul Young. Jan currently serves as Chairman for the CARE board, and is a board member for Caron Texas, New Friends New Life Advisory, Nexus Auxiliary, and is the Chairman Elect of Caron Texas Advisory Board. She delivers Meals on Wheels and volunteers at The Bridge.

The Elisa Project will host its ninth annual Life Lessons Luncheon on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Hilton Anatole hotel.  The luncheon will be chaired by Kim Bannister.  Four-time Olympian, seven-time Olympic Medalist, two-time Pan-Pacific Gold Medalist Amanda Beard will be the keynote speaker.

The purpose of the event is to raise mission-critical funds for The Elisa Project that will be used to provide school-age and community education and prevention programs throughout North Texas, as well as resource and referral services to help patients and families struggling with eating disorders find treatment and support.

The Elisa Project was established in 1999 and is dedicated to the prevention and effective treatment of eating disorders through awareness, education, support and advocacy.   Eating disorders – including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder – affect up to 24 million children and adults in the U.S.  These disorders are complex mental illnesses that have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness – up to 20%.  They don’t discriminate, but affect both males and females of all ages, races, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds.  When we consider the devastating physical and psychological impact of eating disorders, it’s vital that we continue to expand our prevention and intervention efforts and to improve access to treatment.
