Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Northpark Center is celebrating turning fifty with numerous events this fall. One of the events was the Trend Fashion Show featuring Harper’s Bazaar executive fashion and beauty editor Avril Graham. I got the exclusive interview with her backstage immediately following the show. Here are my five questions that we chatted about and some major fashion don’t rules that Avril preaches.

Q: What is your one fall must-have trend?

A: Fringe! Fringe anything – shoes, skirts, jackets. Incorporate some fringe in to your fall wardrobe.

Q: What is your background?

A: I am Scottish and always knew I wanted to be in this (fashion) business. I started with Marie Claire before coming over to Harper’s Bazaar.

Q: What is the best concealer?

A: Cle’ de Peau Beaute’ concealer It is the absolute best and will take years off of you!

Q: Fashion don’ts that you live by?

A: Oh, there are several…  1) Never match your handbag with your shoes. It’s an absolute no-no.  2) Pattern tights. I have never been a fan.  3) Never getting your hair updated. The easiest way to look fresh is to get a hair cut – do it, often!  4) Outdated make-up. Occasionally change out your make-up bag products and refresh your choices. It will quickly give you an updated look.

Q: If you weren’t the Fashion & Beauty editor for Harper’s Bazaar, what would you be doing?

A: I would be the receptionist at Harper’s Bazaar. I truly love what I do!

Guests were treated to Chandon champaign and nibbles as we watched the fall fashion show that Avril curated. Beautiful creations from Elie Tahari, BCBG Maxazria, Ted Baker and Gregory’s were showcased. She talked us through how to pull together classic and updated looks while incorporating important fall trends such as fringe.

My look: Flare jeans / white shirt / Rockstud pumps / Hermes belt but this one is great too / Nest necklace / Hermes bag, but this one is a fabulous option for much less / Trick: Tie a colorful scarf on your handbag for a pop of color!

A huge thank you to Victoria and her Northpark Center team for inviting me to experience the event.  xoxo- Tanya
