I get a lot of questions revolving around the skinny jean vs. the wide leg jean. I know there’s talk around what Gen Z said about the skinny jean being out and the wide leg jean being in. While I have to disagree about the skinny jean part, I do love the wide leg jean style. This is why today I want to dive into how to style wide leg jeans. It’s key to style them the correct way so that you look cute and stylish versus frumpy. I’ll give you a few key tips so you can style them with confidence!

How to Style Wide Leg Jeans
1. Find the right style
Ok first things first: buying the right pair of wide leg jeans. They come in crop, ankle length, or full length. These are all in style, it just depends on your preference. The length determines the shoe you wear (keep reading for that info). They also come in all different wash colors. Again, all colors are acceptable, it just depends on how dressy you want your look to be. The major key here is to buy a jean that is high-waisted! This is what gives you a more flattering chic look. I am wearing these high-rise wide leg ankle jeans above. They are so comfortable and I love the wash. Plus, they are under $100. Fit is TTS. I also own these wide leg pleated jeans. See how I styled them here.
2. Tuck in your shirt
So the first tip on how to style wide leg jeans: tuck in your shirt. As I mentioned above, it is key to own a pair of wide leg jeans that are high-waisted so that when you tuck in your shirt you get a nice clean and flattering line. A popular look is to tuck a fitted tank into your jeans and wear a relaxed-fit blazer or jacket over it. Above, I styled this black tank top with this organza jacket. It is light weight and perfect for spring. Plus, the organza material creates a dressier look. If you don’t want to wear a jacket, pair your jeans with a gorgeous blouse.
3. Style them with the right shoe
Next, let’s talk shoes! So typically I say the shorter the jean, the more casual you can go with the shoe. For a capri length, you can wear sneakers, sandals, flats or heels. For an ankle jean, wear heels, flats or sandals. Some wide leg jeans are floor length, so you definitely need a heel, like these wedge heels. Heels give you a longer leg line and a dressier look. Sneakers give you a fun sporty look. Above, I wanted a dressier look, so I wore black heels. It just depends on what you’re going for.
