Spice Cabinet – BEFORE
Spice Cabinet – AFTER
There is something to be said for being organized. January seems like a good month to clean out, throw out and reorganize. A reader asked me where my spices were when they read the NEAT Method blog post about my kitchen pantry. That led me to organizing my spice cabinet on my own. After posting on Facebook that I needed my windows cleaned, I found Green Army. Check out all the services they offer!
We are all still laughing about the 5 bottles of A-1 steak sauce over here. Be sure to read this blog post so that you are in on the story. That started my January “organizing my life” bug and I’m well on my way to throwing out stuff that has accumulated over here for many years. For example, we are pretty clean and tidy people, yet we still have a hula hoop, roller blades and rip sticks in the garage from when the kids were little. WHY? I believe it’s because you think to yourself “I spent money on that and they may want to use it again”. REALLY? Nope. They would have taken it with them if they wanted it. Our kids are all adults and we are empty nesters. They are not going to go roller blading on our block.
Green Army is a fantastic company that is well-known for pest control and mosquito solutions. But what you might not know is that they offer many other home services such as garage clean out, window cleaning, debris removal, insulation services and outdoor grill steam cleaning. They contacted me about trying the window cleaning and garage clean out and I love their work. They are super fast and get the job done! My windows were filthy and they quickly cleaned them including removing all my screens and re-attaching them. Our garage was fairly organized but Green Army came in and cleaned it out by making three piles: 1) stuff that needs to be organized and go back in 2) stuff that needs to be donated and 3) stuff that is trash and needs to be hauled off. And they haul off all the trash for you and will donate any items to a local charity (from pile number 2). You do absolutely nothing but review the piles (so they know what to throw out vs. donate). BRILLIANT!
That lead me to cleaning out my own spice cabinet. I had often heard of people alphabetizing their spices but I really thought that sounded a little over the top. However, once NEAT Method organized my pantry and color coded it, it totally makes sense to have some sort of system. I purchased this Expand-A-Shelf for the spices and these divided clear turntables to organize all our oil and vinegar. You can also use this crazy susan turntables as well. You may not see a huge difference but from eye level I can now see everything clearly without moving things around.I’m linking you to all the organization items I have been using.
I highly recommend Green Army and you can contact them here or give them a call at 888.537.4555. You will want all of their services. And then be sure to let me know what you did.
GIVEAWAY: I’m giving away one $500 gift certificate to Green Army for you to use on any of their services! Today all you have to do is leave a comment on the blog post answering this question. Which room in your house is in desperate need of organizing? Winner will be announced next week on the blog. Good Luck!
xoxo – Tanya
P.S. Shout out to everyone who keeps stopping me to let me know how much this has inspired you to clean out your house. Keep up the good work!

My bedroom closets that I share with my daughter who is a packrat!
This is a dream come true! I definitely need to get my garage and windows done. It seems like this has been on my to-do list forever. Thank you!
OMGoodness, my husband’s study is a total nightmare! I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I just want to have it done and not tell him I’m going to do it
Awesome! I’m desperate to have my windows cleaned, but I think my pantry needs serious organizing.
Thanks!
My pantry is the culprit. Somehow it always ends up looking like a tornado swept through there.
Darn they’re Dallas only. I have a terrific window cleaner I get ours washed including screens etc twice a year. I’d love someone to clean out the garage, we have an attic above it using a pull down ladder. Need young spry help to go up and down that ladder
Did you say, room? My whole house!!! Would love the window cleaning done – something I wouldn’t do myself.
The garage! Or the Utility Room. They both turn into embarrassing catch-alls.
OMG My husband is the worse at organizing the garage. That is THE ‘room’ we desperately need help with!
Husband’s Perspective:
After 27 years of habit with my “organization” methods, a reorganization is taking away a LOT of my free time, trying to re-learn where Tanya (et al.) put it! I mean, when we re-did the kitchen two years ago, we moved the trash to a new location. It still takes me two attempts to discard a paper towel occasionally due to muscle memory, I guess. I also have a difficult time with the organizing by color…tomato sauce is in one place, tomato puree – way over on the other side of the pantry (mind you the pantry is only 4 feet wide). I still haven’t figured out where the heck the tomato paste is hiding-really small cans.
Shhhhh, happening at my house too!!! Dennis and you could have a week long discussion about this!!!
One other point…with salt now in a canister vs the salt box with a spout…how the heck can you fill a salt shaker? This thought applies broadly, btw.
Garage. Need massive help!
My garage is a hot mess. I like what you said about the kids not using the roller blades again. I’ve saved things like that and extra holiday decor that I never use and it just takes up space.
Garage the most. Kitchen the second most. Thanks for the opportunity!
My garage is s total disaster!! After college moves…Kids random furniture and kitchen things; builder husbands random building plans, tools, parts and pieces of tile, etc.; just moved mother-in-law into assisted living…housing her random extras as well. Of course i have nothing in the garage!! Wink, wink.
Which room isn’t in desperate need of a clean out?! But if I had to pick one, it’s the garage. I can’t clean out the inside rooms because there’s no place for the overflow to go!
we need our windows cleaned. Living by the lake means really dirty windows..We need help!!
I think my garage, and also my guest room closet, the black hole for all things random and all of my daughter’s artwork and keepsakes. BTW, I contacted the NEAT Method ladies and they are coming over to give me an estimate! Would love to work with Green Army, too! xoxoxo
My garage would be a great place to start! Will definitely contact them about window cleaning services this spring!
Garage for us. Three kids, multiple sports, bikes, and JUNK accumulate all the time in there. Would love to have Green Army’s help! Love the blog. Thanks!
Kitchen r garage
My kitchen needs the most help.
Laundry Room for sure!
Would love to win this- garage needs some attention!
Oh, my gosh – my entire house. I downsized and only have two closets and the garage is full of unknown boxes. I would appreciate any assistance I could get.
I have a craft room that was supposed to serve as an extra bedroom but instead has become a dumping ground for everything that doesn’t have home; it embarrassing…I’m a very tidy person my dirty little secret. Love the blog!
Our garage is in DIRE need of organization!!! It’s scary!
So many options, but I’ll lead with the garage as sadly our cars do not reside there anymore. So much clutter.
We need our windows cleaned! We live on a golf course and they are looking dreadful after this crazy winter!
My kitchen could really use it!!
I could really use this for my kitchen!
My kitchen could really use some organization!
My kitchen could really use the help!
Storage building right outside back door -piled high with STUFF
Which room doesn’t need help? lol!! I would have to say my kids rooms. It’s so hard to edit when you get sentimental about “stuff”!
o hands down the laundry room now its the go to room to just put things in like there was an air compressor a desk its like i need a nother room or something or some sort of cabinet great job on the spices
Prob the “playroom” closet. Which is really a tv room now since the “kids” are 16 and 18
My living room could do with some reorganizing for sure, but I’d use green army to tackle other tasks like clear out the attic and, yes, wash those windows!
