Happy first day of fall! Happy Friday! Happy weekend! We’re only one week away from the opening of the State Fair of Texas. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know how happy this makes me. I’ll be there on the first day this year and I want you to enjoy the fair this year too. I’m giving away tickets today!
I’m so excited that I can already taste the Fletcher’s corny dogs! Do you have a favorite part of the State Fair of Texas? I’m giving away tickets and all you have to do to enter is leave me a comment telling me your favorite part of the fair. Is it the food? Animals? Rides? The Midway? Big Tex? Do you always attend? How many years have you been going? Favorite memory? You have until Sunday, September 24 at midnight to leave me a comment. For an extra chance to win, click on my Instagram post (same picture) and leave a comment there too. All winners will be notified on Monday.
Do you know my theory about attending on opening day? The fair always opens on a Friday at 10:00 AM. My theory is that it takes people a while to realize that the fair is open therefore the crowds are a little more manageable on that day. Plus, it’s a little cleaner, the food is fresh (as fresh as fried food can be), the animals are happy and everyone is excited!
I hope to see you there. Big Tex is waiting for ya’. xoxo – Tanya
P.S. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who comes up to me and tells me that they read the blog. It makes me so happy when you let me know. I truly appreciate your loyal following!

I know this is cheesy but the best part of the state fair is seeing my wife’s face. She didn’t have much money growing up and could never go to fairs, amusement parks or carnivals. It makes me so happy to see her eyes light up when she see the rides, food, entertainment. We have only been to the fair once since we don’t have that much money but I feel like that makes it more special. it has been awhile since we have gone and would love to go this year on opening day for sure! Our favorite memory was the first time we went and looked everywhere for the fried lobster! We just could not find it! After we had spent all of our tickets and as we were walking out of the fair we saw the booth for fried lobster! It’s a good think we didn’t get it because it was something like 28 tickets! God Bless and thank you for putting on an awesome contest! Happy to share our story with you!
If you’re from Texas, who doesn’t love the state fair?! Everything is my favorite!
I have gone every single year of my life (my parents took me in a stroller as a baby!). I cannot imagine the fall without a trip to the Fair. My favorite thing is Fletcher’s corny dogs!
We have been going to the State Fair since the kids were little and it’s still a tradition now that they’re in college. Our dear friend Mitchell Glieber is now the president and our favorite part of the fair is stopping in to see him at his offices. And of course we love the food and rides!
My BFF from high school and I like to walk around and try the award-winning, outside-of-the-box food concoctions, coupled with an original Fletcher’s Corny Dog of course! Can’t wait to see what they come up with this year…
I have gone to the Fair since I was a toddler so over 60 years. My favorite part of the Fair is watching my husband win an animal at the basketball game or the darts. He has won a huge animal for me every year since we were engaged in Oct of 1969.
I love the people watching. And I love that my kids (9-12) still want to do all the “free” stuff first to make the day last longer.
I love the corn dogs and the shoes are amazing!
I am so sorry but I meant to put the shows are Amazing!
Thank you!
My best part of the state fair. Is when I take my glam babies to eat their favorite foods is normally the cotton candy, candy apples any thing that they shouldn’t be eating to much of but I let them it any way. Cause am the glam mother, and that’s why they ask me to take them. God, life, food and fun!!!!
I love the food and my kids loves the rides, it’s just a family affair where we enjoy and have fun.
I went for the first time last year after moving to Dallas and my favorite part was the Lemonade Shake ups! I loved Big Tex and all the animals too.

I love the auto show at the Great State Fair! All the newest cars and SUVs in one place to check out!
The Fair also means fall and that is my favorite season!
I go for the Shopping!!!
I love trying new food from competition.
Opening Day and my Birthday are the same day this year! Wanting to celebrate in full State Fair fashion!!!
Corn dogs, Big Tex, animals and exhibits!
The cotton candy!
I love the animals – whether it’s the petting zoo and the giant pig or hearing the auction for the babies to find new homes! We are so fortunate to have this in our city! I LOVE the State Fair as well. The live music and food are a bonus!
My favorite part is all the free stuff they give to people every year. We go every year and we love it. We’ve been going for many many years. I love driving the convertible cars. That’s awesome.
This is my first year in Texas and my friend REALLY wants me to see how awesome the Texas State Fair is!
i have never been and im from texas i would say the food would be my fave always wanted to go
The food is the clear winner, isn’t that what the fair is? Eating food that makes you say, “They can do that?”. Looking forward to seeing what the next deep fried jello and did I see the winner this year is the Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger?
My favorite part of the state fair is just the experience of it all. From the food to the ride to just remembering the memories spent with friends and family.
I am new to Texas and the State Fair is on my bucket list. I have experienced NY and IN fairs but am excited to see how (like everything else) it’s BIGGER here!!
My favorite is the food! It’s one of the few times I indulge in fried foods.
My favorite part is the yummy food!! I always want to try the newest and greatest every year, but I also love the classics such as the turkey leg and corny dog. We dont miss it!
I have so many memories from the State Fair of Texas. We went every year I was a kid and on into my 20’s. And then most years after as I was raising my own kids. My favorite memory would have to be the first year I went with my new husband and I was carrying our first son. My husband won a big bear that we named Chester. He was our son’s first bear and then was passed down to our next two sons. We still have Chester, and he’s aged quite a bit, but he’s a treasure. Our two grandsons have also loved Chester well.
I am 56 and I have been attending for 50 years!!! I love the animals!
It’s the Midway. A total escape and see all the fun they are having.. and remembering taking Paul and Mike as little boys..
I love trying all the crazy fried foods and people-watching!
My favorite part is all the interesting food. Oh, wait I love all the amazing entertainment. Dang! I love both!
My must have are the funnel cakes with extra powdered sugar! I also love to see the animals, walk the midway and people watch!!
Other than all he yummy food…the people watching is always fun : )
My favorite part of the Texas State Fair is the crazy new foods to try! My faithful standby is always a Fletcher’s Corn Dog and a candy apple. I love the ferris wheel and Big Tex too!!!!
My favorite part is the kids areas like the Discovery Gardens. Watching their little faces light up with knowledge & glee.
It’s the excitement of a great state fair in Dallas with my favorite Fletcher’s corny dogs & ice cream bar dipped in chocolate and nuts! It is so much fun with my grandsons!
My favorite is the FOOD!!! Seeing the combinations people come up with!!! And love taking my daughter to the petting zoo they always have!
I beg to go every year… and finally I made it one year and now I start my begging … I love the first day… everyone is so excited … favorite party is a big-Tex selfie and my Fletcher’s Corny Dog!’
Corn dog and a fresh lemonade! The butter sculpture! The Hall of State! Buying whatever they are selling in the Embarcadero!
My favorite part of the fair is seeing Big Tex and eating Fletcher’s corn dogs (and trying all the winning food)!
The Ostrich races were by far my favorite thing a few years ago at the Fair. It is not an animal that you see frequently and to top it all of to have humans trying to ride them was hysterical! My second favorite thing at the Fair is riding the ferris wheel and the feeling you have when you reach the very top center spot. It’s so peaceful and beautiful up there, especially at night.
Hi Tanya! I’m loving all these pictures! Total Insperation! I actually have plans to go opening day! For the FIRST TIME! I’m so super excited! Can’t wait to try all the food, and get on the Ferris wheel! My favorite part of fairs is when it starts to get dark and lights are being turned on!
Cindy**** oops got a bit carried away
My favorite part about the fair is that we all go as a family. As your kids get older, they often don’t want to do things with you, but this is one thing we traditionally all do together. We love it! And, of course, there’s the food too!
My favorite part this Year will be taking my baby daughter for the first time!
She is 15 months so she will be able to explore, smell, taste, and touch new things.
Making memories and hopefully traditions.
I can not wait to spend time with my family! and too top it off its our 5 year wedding anniversary the day we are hoping to go!
This is officially our first year in Texas after moving here last Oct from Ohio. Looking forward to going to the Texas State Fair and trying the iconic Fletchers Corny Dog and meeting Big Tex!
Starting to create Texas memories with our 11 year old son and this is definitely a way to begin.
I love the State Fair, but my absolute favorite thing is the Belgium waffle! You have to get it all the way with strawberries, whipped cream, and loads of powdered sugar! There’s no way of eating this one nice and neat, it will not only get all over your face, but the powdered sugar will get all over your clothes too!
