Oh my gosh, heavens to Betsy! I have discovered the best restaurant and it’s in Austin, Texas. Run, don’t walk immediately to Olamaie for some mouth-watering deliciousness!
I’ve just returned from Austin, Texas and attending SXSW for the premiere screening of The Mink Catcher. This is a short film that I had a little role in. It played well in the Texas shorts block and we are all very proud of it. Now here is where the story becomes a little six degrees of separation. The Mink Catcher features wonderful actress Anna Margaret Hollyman. Anna Margaret is engaged to Michael Fojtasek, one of the Executive chefs of Olamaie. Olamaie is named after my friend Ola Fojtasek, mother of Michael. Ola and I are in Crystal Charity Ball together and sit next to one another (Fojtasek/Foster) in our kick-off committee meeting. Are you still with me?
Co-Executive Chefs Michael Fojtasek and Grae Nonas bring you Modern Southern food like no other. Both come with years of chef experience and met while working at Son of a Gun in Los Angeles. The farm-to-table freshness, American only wine and craft beer list and intimate setting in a beautifully restored 84-year-old house makes this special dining experience well worth the wait. The Mink Catcher team (Samantha Buck, Marie Schlingmann, Katherine Harper, Anna Margaret Hollyman and moi) devoured salad of chilled gulf crab, kil’t white butter mushrooms, Carolina gold rice & cauliflower hush puppies, farm chicken, country-fried cornbread, sticky sorghum cake, meyer lemon sorbet and chocolate cake. But here is the secret I must share with you. Their warm biscuits served with honey butter are out of this world! Seriously, I could have made a full meal out of the biscuits. You have to ask for them because they are not on the menu. If they put them on the menu, they would be making biscuits all day. To die for!
Be sure to grab a reservation or you won’t get in. Open for dinner Tuesday – Saturday and lunch most days. Located at 1610 San Antonio, Austin, Texas. Phone: 512.474.2796
Now, who wants to run down to Austin and bring me a biscuit? xoxo- Tanya
