Best dresses for Graduation. Something for the graduate, guests and Mom.

Graduation season is here! So today I’ve rounded up a selection of my favorite dresses for graduations this year (including this eyelet dress I have on). Ramsey picked dresses for the graduate, and then we compiled options for graduation attendees as well. So whether you are going to the graduation of your child, sibling, friend, or your own… we’ve got you covered!

Before we dive into today’s subject, I wanted to say THANK YOU for your kind comments, DM’s, text messages, e-mails and phone calls yesterday. Please know that I read every single one of your comments and that they mean the world to me! Writing personal blog posts is never easy and while it can be painful, it is also part of the healing process. I am hoping that in some small way, it helps others too. Onward…

For the Mother

If you are a parent with a child graduating high school or college, opt for something classic and pretty like this. But you can have a little fun too if you like with something bright like this! I also gave you some lovely pant and top options below if you prefer that over a dress. Think about what you would wear to a nice summer brunch or luncheon. And definitely make sure to wear nice sandals, block heels, or wedges since you will be taking pictures outside in the grass most likely. Overall, you’ll want to look nice for those priceless family photos of such a monumental moment. And don’t forget to purchase a nice dress like this one for the baccalaureate service if your child has one!

For the Sister or Friend

As a sister or friend of someone graduating, I suggest selecting a cute sundress, wrap dress, or jumper! Certainly ask about the dress code of the graduation ceremony because some may expect a slightly nicer dress code than others. To stay safe, pick a cute sundress like this that you might wear to church. Don’t forget a good pair of wedges, block heels, or nice sandals for walking in the grass too!

For the Graduate

For the graduate, I would recommend going for a more classic and timeless look such as this. A white dress is always a fabulous option! Of course you can have fun with a pretty floral pattern or something colorful. Just wear something that you think will still look classy in 10 to 20 years when you look back on it! This probably goes without saying, but remember that you are taking pictures with your family and the school. So play it safer with something that’s appropriate for church or a luncheon. Be thinking about the neckline and shoulders of the dress, since you probably won’t want a high mock-neck or puffy sleeves under your graduation gown. You could wear high heels, but I would go with a wedge, chunky heel, or block heel sandal since you will be walking up on stage and definitely don’t want to trip!

I hope this helps you decide on what to wear to graduations this season. It’s such an exciting time that always produces mixed emotions. Change can be hard, but that’s just part of life! Wishing all you graduates and graduate parents the biggest congrats on a new season of life. Don’t forget to bring a gift (click here for ideas).

The actual dress I have on in the pictures above is SOLD OUT. However it is available in white. I suggest sizing up one size.
