Last week I wrote a unique blog post asking my readers to help decide where we will go on our 25th anniversary. I was overwhelmed with your amazing ideas and input. I always knew my readers were awesome! You all are well-traveled and a wealth of information. I have hand picked a few destinations to be shared on the blog in a travel series because we might all want to consider these. Today, longtime reader Luci shares her Jade Mountain, St. Lucia trip with us.
Let me know what you think about this guest blog post series and if you would like to see more like this. xoxo – Tanya
Jade Mountain, St. Lucia
Hello TF Blog Readers! I am so excited to be writing this post for you today. I love talking about travel and sharing photography, so let’s jump right in!
Deciding on a vacation destination can be tricky. Beautiful places are everywhere. My husband and I tend to save up and take one big vacation a year. We wanted to pick one of the best all inclusive resorts for families, but didn’t want long hours of travel time. We don’t have kids, so preferred a resort that was adults only. The Caribbean fit the bill, and we researched the top-rated resorts to make our final selection.
Jade Mountain is a gorgeous luxury resort in St Lucia. The panoramic view of the Piton Mountains immediately grabbed my attention as I really enjoy photography. We loved that most of the guest rooms have their own private infinity pool. The rooms do not have air conditioning because they are open to the outside on one wall, but there are ceiling fans. Anytime we needed anything, a team of Major Domos (butlers) assisted with our dinner reservations or booking our activities. We could also utilize the facilities of the sister resort (Anse Chastanet) nearby including restaurants, beaches, and excursions. We had a great mix of active days and relaxing beach days. I didn’t want to come home! Keep reading for my resort tips so you can relax and enjoy to the fullest.
Jade Mountain St Lucia Travel Tips
Air: There aren’t any direct flights from DFW to St Lucia. I recommend connecting through Charlotte for efficiency and Immigration/Customs. We flew on American Airlines. From Charlotte, it is a 4-hour flight to St Lucia Hewanorra Airport (UVF). Be mindful of your luggage: Outside of St Lucia Immigration, the airport has quite a few “porters” who will hustle you to take your bags a whole 50 feet for cash tips. Don’t fall for it!
Getting to the resort: If you want to splurge, take the 6-minute helicopter transfer. We were traveling with friends, so we chose the 1-hour van ride. I do not recommend that option if you get any sort of motion sickness. While the distance from the airport to the resort is short (approx.18 miles), the roads are narrow and bumpy, with a lot of hairpin turns and elevation changes.
Eat: Meal plans at Jade Mountain vary, so pick what suits you. Jade Club is the main restaurant, and we had breakfast there every morning; service is leisurely, “island time”. We rotated where we had dinners each night between Jade Club (menu changes daily) and the other restaurants down at Anse Chastanet resort. My favorite was Apsara for East Indian Caribbean Fusion food. Yum!
Do: Yoga at 7 AM at the Celestial Terrace. The snorkeling excursion to the base of the Pitons. Jungle Bike ride excursion. Great for any level, but go in the morning to avoid the heat and humidity. You can also hike on the trails too. Sunset cocktail hour at the Celestial Terrace. Gorgeous!
Pack: Your passport! Sunscreen. Mosquito repellant (This is a MUST!) Swimwear, cover-ups, shorts, etc. for day time. Flip flops or comfy sandals like Merrell or Teva. Sneakers if you hike or Jungle Bike. Smart casual attire for evenings. This dress is only $35 and so cute!
Thanks for letting me share my destination today! xo – Luci
