I’m so excited to show you our recent Family Room update featuring Crypton Fabric. Why did I chose this fabric? Because we have pets! If you are a pet owner you know how hard it is to keep them off the furniture and remove stains. Crypton Fabric is antimicrobial as well as stain and spill resistant to both water and oil-based stains making it the ideal choice for this project. A huge thank you to my designer Amy Berry and her impeccable choices which helped my vision come to life. Now, let me show you the results of this performance based fabric. Before/After pictures at the bottom of this post.

I’ve worked with Amy for several years on various projects in our home. I trust her selections 100% and defer to her on all choices. As I say, decorating is not my expertise. I’m happy to pay for that expert advice! Want proof? Check out how she transformed my TanyaFoster.com headquarters and helped me create the Assistant Office. So when it came time to update the family room, I knew I would pull her in for selections and guidance.

I’ve worked with Crypton Fabrics before and know how well they are made and hold up. It is the fabric used to recover my couch in my office (blog post with details). That project was done in 2017 and I can tell you that the fabric and couch have held up incredibly well. I knew I wanted to keep my family room couch and love seat as they are incredibly well made but I also realized they needed to be updated. You’ll see in the before/after pictures below that the fabrics were well ‘loved’ and the stylings were a bit dated. These fabrics have lived through the kids growing up, having friends over, movie nights, drill team practice and much more. Needless to say, it was time for an update.

Here are the fabric selections and style notes of what we did to update the family room. We cleaned up the arm style of the sofa, making the roll arm tighter and a little less oversized, changed the originally loose back cushions to have the sofa be a tight back and did a single bench seat cushion. Amy prefers a tight back sofa because they sit neat and tidy. When you do this, there is not as much fluffing needed on back cushions and gives it some extra depth. When the sofa came back from being recovered I had to do a double take because it looks so much larger. I also asked to have the trim removed from the bottom as I wanted the legs exposed. This gives it a much more contemporary feel. The fabric is Crypton Cream (S2786), which helps the room stay light and neutral.
Sofa Pillows – Fermoie Marden and Grand Union. Both available at Amy Berry Home (in store and online).
We removed the back cushion of loveseat, and did a cleaner dressmaker skirt that waterfalls (eliminated the welt that previously created a “break” in the skirt). We were able to really tighten the arms here, and eliminated the previously flat front the oversized arms had. This gave the loveseat much more structure. The fabric is Crypton Natural (S2787) and compliments the sofa beautifully.
Loveseat Pillows – Zak + Fox “Sayat” in color Bundan (finished product seen here).
The Ottoman got a little punch with Schumacher Capri Stripe. We also removed the skirt from this piece to expose the legs. Again, this gave the upholstered piece a more modern feel.
Below you can see all the differences in the before and after pictures. These pictures were taken about six weeks apart and although we tried to match up the exact shots, the weather was vastly different on the two shoot days and therefore the lighting isn’t exactly the same. But you can tell the differences and I am so happy with the end results of using Crypton Fabric to update our family room. We didn’t change any other elements in the room. As you can tell, all of our pets love it. Sparky, Max and Ruby Lou approved!
I highly recommend Crypton Fabric (click here to see where you can find them) and if you are needing a designer in Dallas, Amy Berry is your gal.
xoxo – Tanya
