Lake Austin Spa Resort

Do you ever just need to getaway for a couple of days and reboot? I do and I just got the opportunity to do so at the Lake Austin Spa Resort. It was recently voted the #4 destination spa in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine. Haven’t been? Boy howdy are you in for a special treat. Let me share with you what we experienced.

The resort is an award-winning destination spa nestled on 19 lakefront acres in Central Texas’ legendary Hill Country. Lake Austin Spa Resort is just 30 minutes from downtown Austin and Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Open year-round, the resort offers the luxury of a world-class spa and the warmth of a best friend’s lake house. The spa underwent a multi-million dollar 25,000-square-foot expansion and renovation completed in 2004 and features spacious men’s and women’s locker rooms, outdoor Palm Pool, hot tub and cabanas, 30 treatment areas, including garden tents and suites, indoor Junior Olympic-length lap pool in the Pool Barn, and two acres of terraced foliage and aquatic gardens. Since the new spa opened, the resort has also renovated many of its guest rooms, the dining room and gathering areas including the Lake Room and Garden Library.

Pete and I stayed in one of the newly renovated luxury garden rooms which has every amenity you want and could possibly think of. The resort is all-inclusive and will provide you with every meal and snack you need. There are only 40 guest rooms on the entire resort so at any given time the total capacity is no more than 65 people. If you look at the layout of the resort you will see that you will never be around a crowd. In fact, relaxation is the name of the game. Just look at our pictures. The only wardrobe you will need are your workout clothes and the plush, white robe that the resort provides during your stay. I’m not kidding. Guests go to mealtime in their fluffy robes. It’s heaven!

Co-owner Mike McAdams and interior designer Julio Quiñones (both of Dallas) have done an incredible job with the decor and layout. In fact, I could have sworn that my decorator must have had something to do with the beautiful fabric selections and color tones. It’s decorated like a lovely home which is why it feels warm and inviting. When you walk around the grounds you smell lavender, rosemary and mint. Why do the grounds and organic garden magically grow to perfection? Lake Austin Spa Resort’s resident “Director of Flora and Fauna” is Trisha Shirey. The grounds are organically maintained and include a lush herb garden where chefs and guests alike come to take clippings.

We enjoyed several spa services, walked the grounds, worked out in the enormous workout facility, ate delicious and healthy meals prepared by Executive Chef Stéphane Beaucamp and enjoyed some serious down time. In the evenings we would walk outside and star gaze. It’s amazing how many stars you can see in the hill country away from the city lights. The staff attend to your every need and are a friendly bunch.

It’s the perfect location for a couples trip, girls trip or just some alone time. There’s not much to do other than relax so be prepared for some serious me time. For us it was a wonderful winter reboot and a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We highly recommend it and will certainly return.
