With everything going on, we are all spending a lot of time at home. Truth be told, I’m a homebody and have some ideas for all of you who are going stir crazy! If you are someone who likes to be out and about, it can be hard to change your lifestyle. Heck, it is hard to be home this much even if you enjoy it! I have found some ideas to help you survive the homebody lifestyle or this “work from home” change that many of you are now experiencing.
Before I launch into how comfortable you should get while staying home during this uncertain time, I need to clarify a few things. I always work from home so this is my “normal”. But just because you are being allowed to work from home now does not mean you are on vacation. Being productive at home requires discipline. Think of the work schedule you are on at your office. Apply that to your home. Get up, get dressed and get to work! I bet you will find that you can be extremely productive when you eliminate the water cooler chit chat and break room conversations. To break up the loneliness, I suggest facetiming family and friends to check on them. It’s good to get a visual on the ones you love. Now, let’s talk about what you’ll need to survive this ‘house arrest’ situation.
For starters, we all need to invest in is some loungewear. The homebody lifestyle does not mean being a slob-kabob. The sweater and cardigan that I am wearing in the photo are great for looking cute and feeling comfortable while lounging (both are now on SALE). Other must-have items to live in comfort include slippers, robes and pajama sets. A plush blanket is perfect for cozying up and bingeing on Netflix and other streaming channels. Some show/movie suggestions that I have? Outlander (of course!), The Outsider, Bombshell, Parasite (Oscar winner), The Marvelous Ms. Maisel and if you haven’t binge watched Cheer, now is the time for this heartwarming story! Here are some oldies, but goodies –>> The Office, Friends, The Sopranos, Mad Men (one of my favorites – especially because of the fashion) and Sex & The City
Thing you need to accompany you on the couch are this cute homebody mug, a monogrammed wine glass and pillow, which all go perfectly with a personal foot massager. You need ample snacks to make it through a series, so a popcorn maker or a baking set are a must. Other items that are essential include tea kettles, coffee makers, and sofa arm trays.
We all need to make self-care a priority right now. Since we have more time, why not go the extra mile for a bit of a spa day? There are so many facial and spa options that are perfect for pampering. Facials, bubble baths and candles(this is my favorite scent because it makes your house smell clean) are all you need. There’s even this amazing bath caddy that is perfect for holding a book and a glass of wine. Afterwards you can paint your nails with a new spring color.
Now let’s move on for my book lovers! Some of my favorite books include the one I am holding in the picture, “American Royals,” by Katharine McGee. This is the perfect novel if you love watching one of my favorite shows, The Crown. Have you seen Season 3? OMG! So good, right? If you enjoy a good mystery/thriller, I highly recommend “The Woman in Cabin 10,” by Ruth Ware. This novel has so many twists and turns and is almost impossible to put down!
Speaking of unable to put down, you all know that I just love binge-watching The Outlander series….well, I also just love the book series! This historical-fiction series by Diana Gabaldon is even better than the TV show (which is saying a lot!). The bonus is that there are currently eight books in the series and even more to come, so it can be a yearly gift. Other great books that are more coming of age themed are “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng (which is going to be a series on Hulu this month!) and “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeymoon.
Other things I recommend doing to pass the time are to play board games, like Catan, with your families, work some new puzzles or relieve stress by indulging in some adult coloring books. This is also a great time to work on your fitness! There are so many great DVDs to use as workout guides. Amazon Prime also offers a bunch of workout videos with your membership.
Do you have any other activities to do at home? I’d love to hear about them! Let’s all help each other stay sane. Please leave me your suggestions in the comments.
xoxo – Tanya

OMG It’s like you made a post about ME
I couldn’t get into the American Royals. I will have to try reading it again. I always love your picture boards of items to purchase. Thank you
TONS of fun ideas here — may have to gift a few to myself… Thanks, Tanya!
The Women in Cabin 10 was a great read. I’ll check out the others. Thanks for the tips!
I watched Outlander on your recommendation. Totally hooked! Binge watched for days, now I wait for the new season…. Marvelous Ms Maisel on Prime is another great show. Thanks for the great ideas!
Perfect timing on this, Tanya! I think we are all trying to grasp for some of our previous normality. I am doing all you suggest above, but I am finding that I now have MORE time to walk around the block, eat better and be more productive. I am getting more reading done and pulled out the needlepoint I just haven’t been able to finish. Stay safe!
