OK, this post has been a long time coming. I get asked this question all the time. What is the best mascara? Well, it turns out I have a few favorites. Today I ‘m going though why I like them and what really works. There are tons of them that didn’t make the cut so let’s discuss which ones are worth the money.
Side note: Right now, I am at Nordstrom for the Anniversary Sale preview. As a blogger, I get to meet with the Nordstrom sales team and hear what items will be HOT. I am also trying on lots of sale items and taking dressing room pictures so that I can accurately make recommendations. Please take the time to read this blog post so that you have a strategy for the Anniversary Sale. Also, I will pull an all nighter to grab the links and get my blog post out as soon as the sale goes live. Be sure to check your inbox early on Thursday, July 13th. I plan to e-mail you before sunrise on the early access day! Here’s my early access post from last year. #EarlyBirdGetsTheWorm
Best mascaras. What a sticky wicket! You have to realize that everyone likes mascaras for different reasons. I have tried many and tend to gravitate back to the ones that perform well for me. I am including all the ones you see above with my reasoning below. This post is of course subjective because they are the best products that work for me. Know going into this that I wear mascara daily and like thick, clumpy lashes. I’ve never really been into the natural look. Also, I don’t like waterproof mascara. Ever. It’s too hard to get off and I believe its hard on your lashes. I swear by one product to grow your lashes (see below). And I always wear black mascara. Oh, and I don’t use drugstore mascara. I really believe you get what you pay for. Here goes…
Best lash primer: Cils Booster mascara primer. This is BEST way to get thick lashes. Works with any mascara. Only use on top lashes. Let it dry before you apply your mascara.
Best mascara for a thick, clumpy lash look: Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Volume Mascara The name says it all!
Best mascara for easy application: Urban Decay Perversion mascara This won “Best Mascara” in publications and I really wanted it to be my top choice. It’s not for me because it applies very wet. I have deep-set eyes and wet mascara goes everywhere on me. It’s good – not great.
Best mascara for everyday casual look: It’s a tie between Chanel Inimitable volume mascara and Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat 5 Star mascara Before I started blogging I was a Chanel girl. I mean all my make-up was from Chanel. It works for me. But then I started trying new products for the blog and discovered so many wonderful brands. Charlotte Tilbury is one of them. I love everything she makes including her mascara.
Best eye liner: LeMetier de Beaute Precision Liquid Eyeliner. This is such a great liquid eyeliner. It goes exactly where you put it. Very dramatic!
Best eye makeup remover: There is only one choice here – Lancome Bi-Facil Eye Makeup remover. I buy the large one and always have a back up under my sink. I’ve been using this product for years. Absolutely the best one on the market! Close second: Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover This is the make up remover that I travel with. Much better price too!
Best product to grow your lashes: NeuLash I cannot say enough great things about this product. You have to use it every night and it will take about a month (yes, 30 applications) before you notice anything. If you stop using it, it stops working. I asked my dermatologist about the product and she said it absolutely works. It’s expensive but worth it. One tube will last you for at least 6 months!
I feel certain I’ve left some really great mascaras off my list. I would love to hear what you are using and why you like it. Please leave me a comment and share your wisdom.
Wink, wink! xoxo – Tanya

I was told by Dr. Kim Maale to use Albolene as an eye makeup remover. Just thought I would mention it. I was a little surprised with all the eye makeup removers out there. This is her #1 choice…available at any drug store.
Interesting Andrea. Did she say why? I would love to know.
Thanks for sharing!

What about non smudge. Tried Bobbi Brown and it was not non smudge. TY
None of the ones I suggested and use smudge at all. And I wear them all day long.
Hope that helps.

Charlotte Tilbury is the best!! My stylist at Nordstrom’s turned me onto this mascara, and it has been my favorite ever since. xoxo
Thanks so much for leaving this comment. That’s exactly how I found the Charlotte Tilbury mascara. The make-up artist there is excellent with recommendations at Nordstrom Northpark.

Hey, Tanya. Great post – and yes – looking forward to hitting the sale tomorrow! I personally prefer waterproof mascara – always! If I don’t, my weepy eyes will cause my mascara to create tracks down my cheeks! (I cry over commercials! So must always be prepared.) Especially for on-set use, my favorite right now is MAC “False Lashes” mascara – in black of course. Holds up under hot lights over a long period of time. The Lancome Bi-facil remover IS fabulous and takes off the waterproof mascara beautifully! But I like to let it sit for a minute or two – then remove with a damp cloth. (lukewarm, not hot!) And to Andrea – I use Albolene also on occasion, especially for stage makeup. It also helps keep my lashes full and healthy.
Oh my gosh Sharon, this is excellent feedback. I love that you have given us this insight. From an actor perspective, long-wearing and water proof makes sense.
Thanks so much for sharing this.
