This is one of the most asked questions I have received over the last week. What are we going to do about our hair color and nails? During this time when hair and nail salons are temporarily closed, you are going to need an at-home solution to cover that gray. Luckily, I’ve got you covered! Check out my two recommendations.
I’ve talked about how amazing the dpHUE products are before on this site. You can see various mentions in these blog posts: Touch Up your Roots with dpHUE (where Justin Anderson did my hair out in L.A.), Recent Beauty Finds You Need To Know (this is the actual blog post when I discovered the brand) and Tips and Tricks to Styling Your Hair. You know me, when I like a brand, I shower them with love! Their Apple Cider Vinegar Dry Shampoo is some of the best on the market.
GRAY ROOTS: The product that I am demonstrating in the video is the dpHUE Root Touch Up Kit (I use color Medium Blonde). I absolutely LOVE this solution for covering my grey roots in between salon visits. It’s permanent color and will take you about 45 minutes to complete. Be sure to watch the video for all the details. Remember, you are ONLY covering your gray roots. This is not intended to be full hair color or replace your professional hair stylist. There are several colors available so be sure to look at the color chart. If you are questioning what color to get, remember you are trying to match your root color. I also love this color touch-up spray which will be a temporary solution.
dpHUE offers many hair care products for various hair colors. Blondes have to be very careful about what they put in their hair. I love the dpHUE Color Fresh Oil Therapy because it’s not heavy and it has no color. Therefore, it won’t taint my blonde. Listen, I spend A LOT of money to stay a perfect shade of blonde so I am really picky about what I use to maintain it.
NAILS: If you have dip polish or gel polish and are fretting about how to get it off, I have a great solution for you. Thankfully, one of my followers alerted me about this yesterday. Verbena Parlor Nail Salon is selling their Gel/Dip Powder Removal Kit online. So at the very least, you can safely remove the polish until your nail salon opens again. WHEW!
I hope that helps provide an interim solution during this #COVID-19 stressful time at home. Who has time for gray roots?

P.S. The video below was created in 2018 but the process is the same.

First off I know how hard it is to keep cool icy blonde from going brassy. Also depends on your water quality how hard it is, sun, as well as product. In Scottsdale for instance I have a T3 shower filter to remove stuff and it helps. In Seattle the water is soft so no need.
But gorgeous blonde hair is stunning.
I just gave up it’s too much for me going between Scottsdale and Seattle and being outdoors so much golfing.
I’ve used countless blue tinted shampoos from Oribe and others. I don’t like the mess and potential staining on tiles and towels from the blue residue and how long you need to leave the product on to get brassiness out. Plus they’re very drying you really need to condition well afterwards.
I’ve read Phillip Kingsley has a shampoo conditioner for blonde and gray with no blue or violet dye. I haven’t tried but it’s an option.
I’m a big believer in apple cider products too great for blondes to add shine. That’s a trade off with going blonder is getting that shine back
Loved your video Tanya I think these are a great add on to your blog
Sorry to blab so much.
Thanks for the input Kris.
Have you tried the dpHUE products? I never had any staining in my all white shower from the purple shampoo and conditioner.
Give them a try.

Serious Q: How does the root touch up kit do on grow-out for dishwater roots? I’m a faithful salon visitor with baby fine, blonde hair. Just tried the new dpHue Baby Blonde color gloss with great success (just like an Aveda salon tone) – but my roots are still present. Seriously flirting with giving the root touch up a try, but wanted to ask these two questions first:
1) Do you get a solid color look? (ie- Do you loose your high and low light look at the root line with this product?)
2) Has anyone tried using this by pulling out small pieces of hair (like at salon) to simply break-up the solid root line? – Think that’s what I’m curious to try…
Jen,
Remember, this DOES NOT replace your colorist at your salon. It is simply to cover your gray roots until you can get to the salon (or between salon visits).
Yes, it will be a solid color and you should select the color of your base color.
Hope that helps.
Tanya
Thanks for the reminder. Canceled my hair appointment so I’ll try some of these products. I’m not desperate yet and I’m not going anywhere so I might hold off until I can’t stand myself! Thanks again.
Barbara,
Just trying to provide at-home solutions during this difficult time.

I just bought the kit to take my gel dip nails off. Thanks for the information. Hope it comes with good instructions! Be safe!
Jan,
Oh good. Let me know how it goes. I ordered mine too but won’t need to take off my dip polish until next week.

Feeling lucky cuz I made it to the salon just before all the crazy.
You are lucky! I did too.
