True confession: I attended the Dallas Art Ball and did not get a new gown for the black tie event. Horrors, I know. In fact, I did not have time to shop for anything new. So, I dug in the cedar closet and fortunately I had this divine Michael Kors black gown that I invested in a few years ago. I already own good, staple pieces for jewelry, handbag and shoes so I decided that the “wow” factor was going to come from my hair.
I have often thought about hair extensions but I have never wanted to marry myself to something attached in my hair long-term. But a ponytail that you can just clip in? I’m up for party hair, especially if I can take it out that night. Another true confession: The gorgeous man in the top picture is not my husband. As far as I’m concerned, he is the 2nd most important man in my life (family aside). Michael Flores is the brilliant owner of the Michael Flores Salon. He is responsible for my color and hair of the moment looks you see in all blog posts on Film+Fashion+Fun. When I called and said “what do you think about my accessory being my hair” he didn’t flinch. And this drives home the fact of this blog post: The simplicity of a good hair piece/ponytail can add a lot of glamour to an investment piece you already have in your closet.
I grabbed this pin in ponytail at a local shop and Michael guided me on the purchase. You want it to be a close match to your hair color and not too straight. Also, it’s ok if it is a little lighter because your hair is naturally lighter on the ends. I made an appointment with him to style my hair. I would never attempt this on my own for a black-tie event. The hair piece would probably look like Cousin It if I did it myself. I am linking you to my look below and also giving you some links to hair pieces. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get this “wow” factor. The specific brand I purchased was Hair U Wear HairDo and I got the 23″ long wave pony.
Good news for all of my readers! The Michael Flores Salon is offering a FREE HAIRCUT or FREE BLOW OUT with any chemical service for first time clients to the salon.
